Aneros Prelude Enema Bulb

The Aneros Prelude enema bulb is an all-silicone kit made for cleaning up before anal or prostate play. Unlike a standard bulb that empties in a second or two, its one-way, slow-flow nozzle releases water gradually over 30 to 45 seconds, so you can do a few small, gentle rinses instead of one big rush of water.

The 10-ounce bulb holds enough for up to four small rinses without refilling, the valve stops dirty water flowing back into the bulb, and a flange on the nozzle shows you exactly how deep to go. The Aneros Prelude enema bulb was designed as prep for Aneros prostate massagers, but it works before any kind of anal play.

A typical enema pushes a lot of water in very quickly. Some of it can travel past the rectum into the colon, where it triggers cramping and turns a quick clean into a long one. For play, you usually only need the rectum clean.

The Aneros Prelude enema bulb is built around that idea. A small rinse of 2 to 3 ounces goes in slowly, loosens what’s there and comes out easily. Because the bulb doesn’t suck air back in when you let go, you can pause, remove it, empty and carry on without pushing air into your body.

1. Wash it before first use with warm water and liquid soap.
2. Fill the bulb with water close to body temperature, ideally between 90°F and 104°F.
3. Attach the nozzle. Put a little water-based lube on the stopper, push it into the bulb until it snaps, then give it a slight turn to seal it.
4. Lube the nozzle barrel generously, avoiding the flange so you can grip it later.
5. Insert gently, at least 2 inches and no further than the flange, then squeeze slowly. Start with 2 to 3 ounces.
6. Remove, release on the toilet and repeat until the water runs clear.

• Remove the nozzle by sliding two fingers under the flange and pulling up, so you don’t touch the parts that were inside you.

How much water does the Aneros Prelude enema bulb hold?

The bulb holds 10 fluid ounces. Aneros says that’s enough for anything from one large rinse to four small rinses without refilling. For small rinses, start with 2 to 3 ounces, about a third of the bulb.

Why is the flow so slow?

That’s the point of the Aneros Prelude enema bulb. The one-way, slow-flow valve takes 30 to 45 seconds to empty the bulb, compared with a second or two for a normal enema. Going slowly means less pressure, less water reaching the colon and less chance of cramping.

How far do I insert the nozzle?

At least 2 inches, and never past the flange (the disk on the nozzle). The flange marks the maximum depth and stops the nozzle going in too far. Never push past it.

What should I fill it with?

Fill the Aneros Prelude enema bulb with plain water only, as close to body temperature as you can. Aneros says water warmer than 104°F or cooler than 90°F can irritate the rectum and cause cramping.

How do I give myself an enema with the Prelude?

Fill the bulb with warm water, snap the lubricated nozzle in and give it a slight turn, then lube the nozzle barrel. Insert it gently, squeeze slowly, then remove it and sit on the toilet to release the water. Repeat with small rinses until the water comes out clear.

Does an enema clean everything out?

The Aneros Prelude enema bulb is designed to clean the rectum, not your whole lower digestive tract. That’s usually all you need before anal or prostate play, and small rinses keep the water where it’s useful.

How do I clean the Prelude?

Pull the nozzle off the Aneros Prelude enema bulb by the flange, wash the outside of both parts with liquid soap and warm water, then shake soapy water inside the bulb and pinch the nozzle tip while squeezing to flush the valve. Rinse, pat dry and leave the bulb upside down to dry fully.

Can I boil it to sterilize it?

No. Aneros says not to boil the Aneros Prelude nozzle, because heat can affect the slow-flow tip. To sanitize it, wash it, then soak it for two hours in a 50/50 mix of 3% hydrogen peroxide and water, pinching the tip so the inside fills. Rinse and air dry.

What lube should I use?

Use only water-based lube with the Aneros Prelude enema bulb. Aneros warns that silicone-based or petroleum-based lubes will damage the Prelude.

Is the Prelude a medical device?

No. Aneros says the Aneros Prelude enema bulb isn’t for treating constipation or any medical condition. If you have IBD, Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, IBS or rectal bleeding, check with your doctor before using it, and don’t share it with anyone.
